FULLY qualified mechanic Andy Sandham has been at Emlyn Street Tyres Services in Barrow for more than five years.
With two staff, Andy handles general vehicle repairs, servicing and of course all tyre work on cars and light commercials. He can also arrange for MOTs on many vehicles, and he will go the extra mile to help people. Currently Andy is running a free winter check for customers, looking at tyres, lights, wipers and anti-freeze to help you get ready for winter driving. Mechanic won't tyre of managing a garage.
My ambition is to make it a success and not to fall at the first hurdle." Mr Sandham, 31, started out at the former Tarnside garage in Ulverston as an apprentice motor mechanic. He has also worked as an MOT tester Regal Mot Center, and for the former John Wilding garage in Abbots Vale.
He is hoping to build up the business, which provides a range of services, including general car repairs, tyre fitting and engine diagnostics. Mr Sandham wanted to be a mechanic from the age of 10 when he used to help his dad fix his car. Later he used to work in a garage for a cousin while still a schoolboy. He said: "I just like motor cars and anything to do wIth car engines. "Every day is a different challenge." The business helps to sponsor rising stock car star Matty Thelkeld from Penrith, who races stock cars. "He is only 25 but has won quite a few things. He is an up and coming lad in the sport," said Andrew.
